Vehicle Integration of 30mm Terrahawk VSHORAD C-UAS System.
MSI Defence Systems needed a supplier to integrate their proven C-UAS onto a mobile platform that allows for rapid operational deployment, selecting King as the supplier of choice to develop this unique solution.
With the requirement to incorporate a system to level the firing platform, meet strict frequency and stiffness requirements, and work to a demanding delivery schedule, the project required King to combine engineering capability, manufacturing agility, and close collaboration with MSI.
King developed a custom trailer with precisely positioned internal ballast to manage recoil forces and maintain platform stability. A bespoke hydraulic system allowed the axles to be locked during operation, while extensive FEA informed the design of a hexagonal deployable leg system with aluminium bronze wear pads.
The integration of the electronics cabinet, generator, radar, gun, and optics was carefully engineered, with dedicated cable tunnels and recesses used to separate power and communication lines and simplify final fit-out by MSI.
To meet the demanding delivery schedule, serial production began ahead of first-unit validation at firing trials. This required a high level of engineering confidence, which was proven in testing with MSI confirming the platform was the most stable they had integrated their system onto to date.
